Part Seven.45 - Turnip Juice .

Fortunately this is not a television show and our writers are not on strike. (No picket lines were crossed in the production of this column? paragraph) The strikers want money as most people who work expect for their time. The management are having a hard time coming up with it, mostly due to the declining profitability of movies. That of course is the result of ballooning production costs, and the deals with the big stars that pay them a percentage of gross revenue. So even a movie that tanks (relative to the budget) and loses money the big guys still get paid. Of course the as much as they like to blame the stars for this arrangement, its something that came about because both sides thought they could profit from the arrangement. Also with all their past accounting shenanigans, everything is off the gross instead of the net (which can usually be massaged by the accountants). So when your favorite TV shows go dark, remember there always seems to be more blame to go around than money.
